The NMU baseball team has added several new players for the upcoming 2002 season. Jeremiah Britt is
an outfielder from Lapeer with great speed. He can also be inserted as a catcher if needed. "He should add to our base
stealing threat," Manager Rob Preseau said. "He is fast, and never tires."
Jamie Cairns is an infielder from Menominee with great range and an adequate bat. "We may not have a true first baseman
next year with the graduation of Ken Kwarciany, but Jamie will be able to fill in nicely," Preseau said. "He can play a
multitude of positions well. We hope he can fill the gap left by the departure of Kevin Trenkle. Our infield committed
no errors in 2001, so the pressure will be on Jamie to keep that record going."
The Wildcats also received some good news concerning Jason Newman. The pitcher who was injured during the Trinity College
game last season has been cleared to practice with the team.
In other news, Jak Kouw will return as hitting coach in 2002 following a brief tenure in the adult film industry. Also
returning to Marquette will be former Wildcat pitcher Steve Foley, who takes over as bullpen coach.
The Wildcats begin their season February 23rd with a trip to Division I UW-Green Bay.
