Wildcat Baseball

2001 Season

"Come watch the Excitement!"
The 2001 Season, known by the marketing promotion "Come watch the Excitement!" turned out to have various meanings throughout the year. The Wildcats rocketed off with a 13-0 season record (not including exhibition) to start to their season en route to the coveted McFlurry Cup. Lead by seven GLIAC All Conference players and the runner up to the widely popular Public Radio 90's Most Improved Player, the 'Cats posted a remarkable 24-6 on the season to win the regular season trophy, the McFlurry Cup.

Along with the All Conference players, the backbone to the Wildcat's winning season was their "Error Free Infield", the only team in the league to have their infielders go the whole regular season without giving up an error. Along with the excitement created by the stellar start to the season, and the error free infield, C.W. Mayher, better known his senior year as "Mr. Excitement," was also the first pitcher in NMU Wildcat history to pitch a perfect game in the new millennium. The last time a perfect game was pitched was in 1999.

The following schedule includes most of the game highlights from that magical 2001 championship season.
