Wildcats squeak past Fairbanks. The NMU baseball team went toe to toe with a tough team from Alaska Fairbanks
tonight on a beautiful evening for baseball. C. W. Mayher worked 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while
striking out 7 to pick up the victory. The game was a see-saw affair throughout.
The Wildcats broke through in the third when Todd Small singled, moved to third on a single by Brandon Wislocki,
then scored on a balk by Nanooks starter Drew Peters. Fairbanks took the lead in the fourth on a double and two
singles off of Mayher to take a 2-1 lead. Small tied the game in the fifth, doubling to right to score Gordon Glas.
The Nanooks retook the lead in the sixth with a lead-off triple by Brad Ulstrum and a double by Dave Ingram.
The lead would not stand as Justin Young hit a solo homer to tie the game in the seventh and The Wislocki
brothers put the 'Cats in the lead with a Brandon triple and Bryan single in the eighth.
The Wildcat bullpen shut the Nanooks down as Jean Chiquet worked two scoreless innings and Dave Peck worked
his way out of a jam in the ninth for his second save in three days.
The Wildcats return from the road trip but cannot relax, as they head to Petoskey for the Great Lakes
Invitational of Baseball, hosted by North Central Michigan College.
